Rhetta deMesa serves as Special Advisor to Commissioner Janea A. Scott at the California Energy Commission where she focuses on transportation, energy, and climate policy. She provides guidance and oversight for implementation of California’s Alternative and Renewable Fuel and Vehicle Technology Program, which provides up to $100 million annually for the development and deployment of alternative fuel and emerging vehicle technologies. She combines technical experience gained from working in the transportation sector for the past eight years with a policy overlay to ensure program implementation is consistent with and advancing California’s ambitious climate and clean air initiatives. Prior to her work as Special Advisor, Rhetta worked in the Energy Commission’s Research & Development Division where she served as the staff lead on electric vehicle technologies and the Energy Commission’s Transportation Division where she focused on the production and deployment of low carbon biofuels.
